Metro-North Train Catches Fire in Valhalla, New York; Passengers Evacuate Into Frigid Conditions

A dangerous situation for commuters after a Metro-North commuter train collided with a car in Valhalla, New York, Tuesday, forcing hundreds of passengers to evacuate into frigid conditons.
The Journal News reports the crash happened at 6:35 p.m. on the Harlem line near the Commerce Street crossing, causing an explosion which set both the car and train on fire. The newspaper said several police and fire departments are responding and it’s considered a “mass-casualty” situation.

Per , train hit 2 cars at Commerce St in . "Multiple injuries," no fatalities.

It’s not yet clear how many people were hurt or if there were any fatalities, but according to ABC 7, an estimated 750-800 people were on the train when it happened.
There is no word yet what caused the collision, but weather conditions plagued the Metro-North all day. The Associated Press reports the arctic blast combined with frozen precipitation left from Winter Storm Linus caused equipment and infrastructure problems through the system.
Photos on Twitter show passengers evacuating onto the snowy ground. Temperatures were in the low 20s with 15 degree wind chills at the time.
