Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday,January 7,2015
An arctic high pressure system will move over the Midwest on Wednesday, while lake effect snow showers will impact the Great Lakes and the Northeast.
A high pressure system will dip southward over the Midwest. This system will bring bitter cold arctic air to the central third of the country on Wednesday. Temperatures are forecast to be 20 to 30 degrees below normal over the Plains and the Mississippi Valley. Return flow from the Gulf of Mexico will bring light to moderate showers to southern Texas and the western Gulf Coast. In addition, upslope flow will ignite snow showers over the southern and central Plains, as well as the eastern Rockies.
Meanwhile, cold arctic air will continue to spread across the Great Lakes. As this air interacts with the relatively warm waters of the Great Lakes, lake effect snow will develop over western Michigan, northeast Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania, southeast New York and Upstate New York. A low pressure system over the coast of New England will move east northeastward over the western Atlantic. Heavy snow showers will develop over the eastern tip of Maine during the early morning, while scattered snow showers will linger over parts of New England and the northern Mid-Atlantic.
A ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific will keep weather conditions calm over the Pacific Northwest, the Southwest and the Great Basin on Wednesday.
