Swift-Moving Snow to Couple Frigid Air From Chicago to Boston

Another Alberta Clipper storm will swing eastward, this time hitting areas farther north with snow from the Upper Midwest to New England on Thursday into Friday.
As waves of arctic air continue to roll into the northeastern half of the nation, a new storm originating from western Canada will sweep through the northern tier states before the end of the week.
This time the swath of accumulating snow will fall much farther to the north, when compared to the storm from Monday into Tuesday.

Exactly how much snow falls in this swath will depend on the exact track of the fast-moving storm, which is forecast to develop over the Canadian Rockies on Wednesday. Storms of this nature rarely bring a heavy accumulation due to their fast movement and lack of moisture.
According to Northeastern Weather Expert Dave Dombek, "The best chance of accumulating snow and travel delays is likely to extend from the upper Great Lakes to New England."

The clipper storm will bring a general snowfall from North Dakota to central and northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and northern Michigan on Thursday into Thursday night.
Cities from Fargo, North Dakota, to Minneapolis, Chicago and Detroit may receive a coating to an inch or two of snow.
The weak storm will disrupt some of the heavy lake-effect snow forecast over Michigan, northwestern Indiana and northeastern Ohio during the middle of the week.

Spotty light snow or snow showers are forecast farther south in the mid-Atlantic to southern New England from Providence, Rhode Island, and New York City to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
"It is possible it snows hard for a few hours with up to a few inches accumulation over portions of upstate New York to as far south as central interior New England," Dombek said.
Motorists along the New York Thruway to the Massachusetts Turnpike, and interstates 91, 93 and 95 in northern New England should be prepared for a slippery commute early on Friday.
As the storm moves eastward, bands of lake-effect snow that linger will shift position rather quickly.
"Ahead of the storm, it could also snow hard for a brief time in Buffalo and Watertown, New York, as winds swing around to the southwest off of lakes Erie and Ontario later Thursday into Thursday evening," Dombek said.
In the wake of the storm, another push of cold air will follow on Friday into Saturday. This will likely turn on the lake-effect snow machine once again, adding to the snow totals this week.
