Howling Winds to Blast From UK to Germany Late Week

A pair of fast-moving but potent storms will usher howling winds from the United Kingdom and Ireland eastward across southern Scandinavia and northern Europe from Thursday night through Sunday.
The first of the two storms will unleash the most powerful winds of the week across Scotland Thursday night into Friday morning. Wind gusts over 60 mph are expected across western and northern Scotland as well as over the higher terrain. Isolated wind gusts to 100 mph are possible during the peak of the event.
Winds of this magnitude will lead to numerous power outages and downed trees. Damage to structures and automobiles will also be possible, especially due to the concern for falling trees and branches.
Another effect of these powerful winds will be blizzard conditions across the higher terrain of Scotland. Snow already on the ground along with snow falling during the storm will lead to whiteout conditions which will bring travel to a standstill early Friday morning.

While the strongest winds will be farther north, wind gusts to near 50 mph will be possible across northern parts of Ireland as well as Northern Ireland, including the Dublin area. Wind gusts can lead to downed trees and power outages.
This storm will weaken as it pushes farther east; however, strong wind gusts in excess of 40 mph will be possible across Denmark, northern Nethernlands and northern Germany on Friday.
Attention will then turn to the second storm which will have more widespread impacts from Friday night through Sunday.
This second storm will usher the threat for powerful winds to areas from Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France eastward across southern Scandinavia as well as from Belgium and the Netherlands through northern Germany, northern Poland and the Baltic States.
Wind gusts over 35 mph will be common in these areas with gusts of 40-50 mph likely from the Netherlands through northern Poland and western parts of the Baltic States.

The strongest winds will shift from United Kingdom late Friday night and Saturday morning into Scandinavia, Netherlands and Germany during the day on Saturday. Winds will increase from Poland into the Baltic States late Saturday into Saturday night.
This storm will likely lead to travel delays as train service will be impacted, especially across Ireland and the United Kingdom. Flights may also be delayed due to the strong winds impacting several major airports across the region.
Strong crosswinds will also produce dangerous travel conditions for automobiles, especially lorries and other large trucks.
Winds will then remain gusty across the entire region on Sunday as the center of the storm spins over southern Finland.
