During Veterans Day weekend of 2002, places from Lake Erie to the central Gulf Coast became the target of a massive tornado outbreak. Dozens of tornadoes touched down with 12 of the twisters killing 36 people in five states. The strongest tornado, an F4, claimed two lives as it crossed Van Wert County, Ohio.
