Big changes are on the way for parts of the Front Range from tonight into the weekend. A vigorous storm system will bring an end to the current stretch of unseasonable weather.
The storm system currently bringing near-blizzard conditions with heavy snowfall to parts of Montana will also impact the weather for cities such as Denver, Cheyenne and Laramie.
Ahead of this storm system, there will be one final day of unseasonable warmth as sunshine mixes with increasing clouds. Temperatures will climb into the upper 50s to near 60 in Laramie and Cheyenne while the Denver area can expect highs in the middle to upper 60s.
Gusty south to southwest winds will precede the upcoming storm. The strongest winds will be felt this afternoon in southern Wyoming and tonight across northeastern Colorado. Wind gusts over 30 mph will be possible.
Precipitation will begin tonight across southern Wyoming and likely hold off until Saturday for Denver. The warm air ahead of the storm will lead to a brief period of rain before the cold air rushes in and changes precipitation to snow across the entire region.
Snow will fall from later Friday night into Saturday night in southern Wyoming where 1-3 inches will fall in the lower elevations with higher amounts in the mountains. Highs on Saturday will only be in the 30s.
Toward Denver, a bit of rain and snow will fall on Saturday before transitioning to all snow late in the day or early Saturday night. Snow will then fall through the night with several inches expected before the snow ends Sunday morning. Highs on Saturday will be in the 40s, but the real chill will be felt on Sunday when high temperatures remain below freezing.
