Coldest May on Record? Unseasonable chill from visit of Polar Vortex due to dip in Jet Stream makes it feel more like March or early April than early May

After a relatively mild, snowless winter,it seems like Old Man Winter doesn't want to give up the ghost just yet even though we're only 5 or 6 weeks from the 2017 Summer Solstice. Due to the Jet Stream dipping unusually far to the south for this time of year, allowing for an unseasonable intrusion of the Polar Vortex into the Northeastern US, this spring is looking to be one of the coldest on record and certainly May 2017 could go down as one of the coldest Mays on record because of this. Here's the high and low temperatures for one such location in the northeastern US and the NYC area in particular; White Plains,NY; a suburban New York city in suburban Westchester County for the month of May 2017,as of 11:45PM,EDT,May 14,2017, from weatherunderground.com:
