As snow ends across the Balkans, the most disruptive snowstorm so far this winter will move into Ukraine on Monday. Heavy snow will fall across the center of the country, affecting areas from Odessa to Cherkasy and Sumy.
Over the weekend, this snowstorm brought major snowfall across the Balkans, including Bulgaria and Romania, where some locations saw blizzard conditions. Sofia, Bulgaria received 40 cm (15.7 inches) of snow over the weekend.

On Monday, snow will continue to fall in Odessa, though through the afternoon the snow will begin to lessen. Despite the snow becoming lighter, a strong wind gusting to 50-65 km/h (30-40 mph) will lead to blowing and drifting snow.
Heavy snow will cut a swath across central Ukraine, extending from south to north. AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Tyler Roys said "Blizzard conditions will include blowing snow that will reduce visibility to less than 0.50 km (about 0.25 of a mile)." This will lead to widespread travel disruptions.
Roys advises that travel should be avoided across central Ukraine if possible.
While much of central and eastern Ukraine will see snow, the heaviest will fall in a narrow area from Odessa to Sumy where total accumulation will exceed 30 cm (12 inches) in some areas. Roys adds "Snow drifts will likely exceed a meter (about 3 feet) across this zone."
Snow will fall as far west as Kiev, though the city will see much lighter accumulations. From Monday into Tuesday, 5-10 cm (2-4 inches) of snow is expected to fall. While there will be some drifting snow and travel delays, conditions will not be as severe as further to the east.

Snow will gradually come to an end across southern Ukraine Monday evening, followed by central Ukraine Monday night. The wind will remain gusty through the night in these areas, so although the snow will have ended, there could still be areas of blowing and drifting snow.
Light snow and flurries will remain across northern Ukraine into Tuesday, though additional accumulations will be light.
