Warmer weather is set to return to the Minneapolis area into the weekend. However, so will the chance for thunderstorms.
After a cooler start to the week, temperatures will soar into the 70s F and perhaps even into the lower 80s F by the weekend.
"Temperatures this weekend will run about 10 F above-average for the middle of May," said AccuWeather.com meteorologist Brett Rathbun.
These temperatures will replace the the 50s F that were common earlier in the week.
Overnight lows will range from 15 F to 20 F above-average through the weekend.

The warmth and humidity will help to provide fuel for daily showers and thunderstorms over the weekend, some of them drenching. The wettest days will come Saturday and Sunday as an area of low pressure passes by.
"Some of these storms could become severe and produce heavy rainfall," warned Rathbun.
Precipitation on Friday will likely hold off, presenting a rather nice day to get outside before the unsettled weekend comes.

The unsettled weather and warmth is not expected to last too long.
"High pressure will build in behind the storm to begin next week, leading to a great deal of sunshine and cooler temperatures," said Rathbun.
