Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, January 16,2015

A Pacific system will affect the Northwest on Friday, while a cold front will swing across the Great Lakes.

A Pacific low pressure system will slide across the northwestern corner of the country. A cold front associated with this system will extend southwestward. As this frontal boundary transitions eastward, it will initiate moderate to heavy rain over portions of Washington, Oregon and northern California. High elevation snow showers will impact the Cascades. In addition, light to moderate snow showers will develop over the northern Wasatch and the northern Rockies during Friday afternoon and evening. A ridge of high pressure will keep conditions relatively clear across the Southwest, the Great Basin and the southern Rockies. Temperatures are forecast to range between the 60s and 70s across the Desert Southwest.

Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to rise 10 to 20 degrees above normal across the northern Plains and the upper Midwest. Just to the east, a cold front will swing across the Great Lakes, the Northeast and the northern Mid-Atlantic. Light snow will develop ahead of this frontal boundary over the upper Great Lakes, the Northeast and parts of the interior Mid-Atlantic.

A trough of low pressure will skim across the eastern Gulf Coast and the Southeast. This system will bring a chance of light rain to central and southern Florida on Friday.
