Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday,October 7,2014

An area of low pressure will streak across the eastern half of the country on Tuesday, while rain and thunderstorms will return to the Southwest.

A wave of low pressure will move quickly east northeastward over the Mississippi Valley and the Tennessee Valley on Tuesday. As this system interacts with warm, muggy air over the eastern half of the country, showers and thunderstorms will develop over a handful of states. The strongest storms will focus over the middle Mississippi Valley, the Tennessee Valley, the Ohio Valley and the eastern Great Lakes. The upper Mississippi Valley will likely avoid wet weather. Just to the south, isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop along a stationary front draped across the Gulf of Mexico. Thunderstorms will focus over the coasts of Texas and Louisiana, as well as the southern half of Florida.

A separate frontal boundary will extend across the upper Intermountain West and the northern high Plains. Scattered showers will be possible over Montana, northern Wyoming, western North Dakota and western South Dakota.

Meanwhile, moisture from Tropical Storm Simon will spread across the Desert Southwest on Tuesday. This moisture will initiate showers and thunderstorms across portions of southern California, Arizona and New Mexico. Heavy rain associated with these thunderstorms will bring a threat of flash flooding to southeast California and southwest Mexico. High pressure will keep conditions clear across the Great Basin and the Pacific Northwest.
