Halloween Forecast: Snow, Cold to Blast Northeast; Warmth in West

October 27,2014; 9:10PM,EDT

Bone-chilling air, rain and even some early season snow will impact the Great Lakes and Northeast this Halloween.
Meanwhile, another storm will hit the Northwest with drenching rain as dry weather generally prevails elsewhere.

Chilly, Damp and Snowy for the Northeast and Great Lakes

The building warmth from the first part of the week will not last until Halloween from the Great Lakes to the Ohio Valley and Northeast with some rain and even wet snow in the offing.

Kids and adults partaking in the evening masquerade will need to bundle up and should consider bringing along a light or reflective items to increase visibility for passing motorists.
The dramatic change to colder air following late-summerlike warmth will be a shock for some people. Temperatures on Halloween over the Northeast, Great Lakes and the Ohio Valley will range between 5 and 15 degrees below average. AccuWeather.com RealFeel® Temperatures will dip to the 20s in parts of the Midwest. RealFeel Temperatures will range from the 30s in the Appalachians to the middle 40s to low 50s along the East Coast and mid-Atlantic and the 30s over the interior Northeast during Friday evening with gusty winds and precipitation playing roles.
Areas along the I-95 corridor south of Philadelphia should remain dry. However, rain showers will push eastward from the Appalachians during Friday evening into the swath from near Philadelphia to New York City, Boston and Portland, Maine. Wet snowflakes can mix with the rain over the interior Northeast and part of the Midwest, including Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo, New York.

Anyone driving on Friday night from the northern mid-Atlantic to New England, the eastern part of the Ohio Valley and lower Great Lakes should use caution due to the low visibility from the precipitation. Some roads may be slippery due to the combination of rain and fallen leaves. There could even be a slushy accumulation of snow over parts of upstate New York, the mountains of western New England and northern Pennsylvania.
Areas father west from Chicago to Minneapolis should be free of precipitation, but they will be brisk and chilly Friday evening. The sky should clear Friday evening around Detroit and Indianapolis.

Drier and Cooler for much of the South

It will feel like Halloween on Friday in much of the South with the cooler air and a breeze erasing the record-challenging warmth from early this week.
Dry, cool autumn weather is in store for southern cities such as Atlanta, New Orleans, Nashville and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Temperatures will fall to more seasonable levels over most of the South, while a few rain showers may impact trick-or-treaters over central and South Florida during the day.
Skies will clear during Friday night over the central and southern counties of the Florida Peninsula, including Miami, Tampa and Orlando. Spotty showers may linger over part of the southern Appalachians during Friday evening, associated with some of the Great Lakes moisture.

Dry Conditions to Prevail in the Plains, Southwest

Some of the best weather in the nation for trick-or-treating activities will stretch from the Plains and Texas to Southern California.
Temperatures will trend from slightly below average over the Plains to as much as 15 degrees above average over the Southwest.
Most of the region will be dry and clear including the cities of Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Kansas City, Missouri, and Fargo, North Dakota.

Yet Another Storm for the Northwest

The train of storms from last week will continue in the Northwest through this week, including on Halloween.
Clouds and rain are in the offing from San Francisco and Sacramento, California to Portland, Oregon and Seattle. Showers will push well inland during Friday evening to parts of northern Nevada and Idaho.
Similar to the Northeast, motorists should be extra careful Friday evening due to the low visibility and slick conditions caused by the rain since little ghosts and goblins will roam the neighborhoods.
Keep checking in at AccuWeather.com for updates on the Halloween forecast, especially for areas on the edge of accumulating snow in the Northeast.
