Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday,October 21,2014

A cold front will continue to affect the Northwest on Tuesday, while a low pressure system will move across the Northeast.

Active weather will continue to impact the northwestern corner of the country as a cold front shifts eastward over the region. Rain will accompany this cold front as it moves across the Pacific Northwest, northern California and the northern tier of the Great Basin. A mixture of rain and snow will affect the higher elevations of the northern Rockies, especially during the evening. A separate cold front will approach the coast of the Pacific Northwest during the evening, bringing another punch of rain to western Washington and western Oregon. A ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific will keep conditions warm and dry across the Desert Southwest.

Meanwhile, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will flow northwestward over the southern Plains and the Four Corners. Daytime heating will interact with this moist air mass to initiate afternoon and evening thunderstorms over western Texas, New Mexico, eastern Arizona, Colorado and Utah. There will also be a chance of mixed precipitation over the central and southern Rockies during the early morning and late evening hours on Tuesday. Conditions will remain mostly clear over the Mississippi Valley and the Deep South due to high pressure over the central Gulf Coast.

To the east, a low pressure system will shift eastward over the Great Lakes and into the Northeast. This system will usher moderate to heavy rain across the Ohio Valley, the eastern Great Lakes, the northern Mid-Atlantic and New England.
