Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday,October 12,2014

A cold front will swing across the Intermountain West on Sunday, while an area of low pressure will develop over the middle Mississippi Valley.

A cold frontal boundary will extend across the Great Basin, the Intermountain West and the northern Plains on Sunday. Moderate to heavy rain will accompany this frontal boundary, affecting portions of the Pacific Northwest, the Intermountain West and the western high Plains. Snow showers are expected over the higher elevations of the Rockies, while periods of heavy snow will develop over the central Rockies. High pressure will remain in place of the eastern Pacific, keeping conditions warm and dry across the Southwest.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will develop over the middle Mississippi Valley. As this system interacts with moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, strong to severe thunderstorms will develop across the nation’s midsection. Severe thunderstorms will be possible over northeast Texas, Oklahoma, southern kansas, northwest Arkansas and southwest Missouri. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will also move across the western Gulf Coast, the Tennessee Valley and the Ohio Valley. High pressure will keep the Eastern Seaboard mostly clear of wet weather on Sunday, although thunderstorms will continue to fire up over the southern tip of Florida.
