A powerful Category 5 hurricane struck the Florida Keys on this date
back in 1935. Also known as the Labor Day Hurricane, the storm produced
an 18- 20-foot storm surge and winds as high as 185 mph. The hurricane
caused the deaths of 400 to 600 people, with the majority in the Keys.
