Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, September 9,2014

A cold front will dip southward over the northern tier of the country on Tuesday, while copious amounts of moisture will spread across the Southwest.

The remnants of Hurricane Norbert will continue to spread across the western half of the country on Tuesday. Widespread rain and thunderstorms will develop across the Desert Southwest, the Great Basin and the Intermountain West. A ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific will keep the West Coast mostly clear of precipitation.

Meanwhile, a strong cold front will dip southward over the upper Intermountain West, the northern Plains and the upper Midwest. As this system interacts with warm, muggy air over the nationĂ‚’s midsection, strong to severe thunderstorms will develop over the central Plains and the upper Mississippi Valley. Severe thunderstorms will be possible over northeast Kansas, eastern Nebraska, northern Missouri, Iowa, southeast South Dakota, southern Minnesota, Wisconsin and northwest Illinois. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. Additionally, heavy rain will bring a chance of flash flooding to the region on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a weakening cold front will stretch across the lower Mississippi Valley, the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic. Isolated showers and thunderstorms can be expected across the southeastern corner of the country.
