An
abundance of moisture associated with Tropical Depression Odile will
impact the Southwest on Thursday, while an area of low pressure will
move across the West Coast.
Tropical Depression Odile will continue to weaken as it drifts northeastward over the Four Corners. Copious amounts of moisture associated with this system will surge across the Southwest and the southern Rockies, triggering widespread rain and thunderstorms over the region. Heavy rain associated with these thunderstorms will bring a threat of flash flooding to Arizona, New Mexico and western Texas. Meanwhile, a low pressure system will move across the West Coast, bringing periods of light to moderate rain to northern California and the Pacific Northwest. As this system progresses eastward, it will initiate afternoon and evening thunderstorms across the Great Basin and parts of the upper Intermountain West.
To the east, a cold front is forecast to extend from the lower Mississippi Valley to the Southeast. An onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico will interact with this frontal boundary, which will produce isolated thunderstorms across the Gulf Coast, the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic. A separate cold front will stretch from the Ohio Valley to northern New England. Rain will develop along this frontal boundary and swing across the Northeast. High pressure will keep conditions mostly clear across the upper Midwest and the Great Lakes on Thursday.
