A cold front will extend from the lower Mississippi Valley to the Southeast on Wednesday, while tropical moisture will continue to surge across the Southwest.
Tropical Storm Odile will continue to weaken on Wednesday as it drifts northeastward over the Four Corners. An abundance of moisture associated with this system will surge across the Southwest, the Great Basin and the southern Rockies. This moisture will interact with daytime heating to initiate widespread rain and thunderstorms across the region. Heavy rain associated with these thunderstorms will bring a chance of flash flooding to southeast California, southern Nevada, Arizona, southern New Mexico and western Texas. Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will approach the West Coast. This system is expected to usher showers across western Washington, western Oregon and northwest California. The upper Intermountain West will stay mostly clear of wet weather.
To the east, a cold frontal boundary is forecast to extend across the lower Mississippi Valley and the Southeast. This system will produce showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf Coast, the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic on Wednesday. A separate cold front will begin to dip southward over the Great Lakes and the Northeast. Rain will develop ahead of this frontal boundary over parts of upper Midwest and northern New England.
