A
cold front will extend from the southern Plains to the Mid-Atlantic on
Tuesday, while moisture associated with Hurricane Odile will affect the
Southwest.
A cold frontal boundary will extend across the southern Plains, the lower Mississippi Valley, the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic on Tuesday. As warm, muggy air from the Gulf of Mexico collides with this frontal boundary, widespread rain and thunderstorms will develop across the region. The strongest storms are expected to develop along the Gulf Coast, while scattered showers and thunderstorms will spread across the Deep South and the Mid-Atlantic. Additionally, an area of low pressure along the eastern end of the frontal boundary will usher stormy weather over a large portion of the Northeast. High pressure will keep conditions mostly clear over the upper Mississippi Valley and the upper Midwest. Temperatures will be roughly 10 degrees below normal across the region on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Odile will continue to weaken as it drifts north northeastward over Baja California. This system is expected to usher an abundance of moisture over the Southwest, initiating widespread thunderstorms over the southern Rockies and the Desert Southwest. These thunderstorms will bring a threat of flash flooding to valleys adjacent to sloped terrain. The West Coast will avoid wet weather due to a ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific.
