Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,September 1,2014

A low pressure system will move over the Great Lakes and southern Canada on Monday, while an onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico will fuel storms over the Southeast.

An area of low pressure will continue to move east northeastward over the Great Lakes and south central Canada. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend south southwestward over the upper Mississippi Valley, the central Plains and the southern Plains. As this cold front collides with warm, muggy air streaming northward from the Gulf of Mexico, strong to severe thunderstorms will develop across the nation’s midsection. Severe thunderstorms will be possible over southwest Michigan, northwest Indiana, southern Wisconsin, Illinois, southeast Iowa, Missouri and eastern Kansas. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. Additionally, heavy rain associated with these thunderstorms will bring a chance of flash flooding to western Indiana, central Illinois, Missouri, northwest Arkansas, southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will linger over the northern Plains on Monday.

Meanwhile, an onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico will initiate thunderstorms across parts of the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic, while isolated thunderstorms will be possible over the western Gulf Coast. Residual moisture will also bring a chance of thunderstorms to the Northeast. A ridge of high pressure will keep conditions mostly clear across the West Coast.
