Early-season snow accumulated and created a wintry scene across Western Canada early this week, much to the delight of a dog who had never seen snow.
Chilly air dominated the region, allowing the snow to fall and stick to surfaces, including roadways.
"A strong arctic high pressure system over northwest Canada delivered an unusually cold air mass by September standards into Alberta," said AccuWeather Canada Weather Expert Brett Anderson. "The combination of this cold air, a weak disturbance and upsloping wind produced the snow Monday with over 20 centimeters reported northwest of Calgary."

Snow falling so early in the fall is uncommon, but not necessarily unprecedented for the area according to Anderson.
