In keeping with tradition, temperatures will continue their up-and-down cycle during the second half of September around New York City.
Each day, Monday through Friday, is likely to be free of rain and generally sunny, as one high pressure system from Canada, followed by a second will dominate the weather.

After spending much of next week, the first few days of autumn, with daytime highs in the lower 70s and nighttime lows in the 50s in the city, another warmup is scheduled for next weekend.

It is easy to lose track of what what is normal during the autumn season.
According to Northeast Weather Expert Dave Dombek, "Daily average temperatures trend downward by about 1 degree F every two to three days this time of the year."
The average, normal temperatures for the middle of next week range from a morning low of 58 F to an afternoon high of 72 F.

The Great Heat Wave of 1895

-Spanning Sept. 19 to 23, 1895, millions of people in the Northeastern states were sweltering in a major heat wave. Temperatures climbed well into the 90s from Washington, D.C., and Baltimore to Philadelphia, New York City and Boston. Many of the record highs set during the heat wave are still on the books to this day, nearly 120 years later. While electricity had been in use at the time, there were only a limited number of electric fans in operation. Air conditioning had not been invented until 1902.
