Los Angeles: Heat to Build Into the Weekend

September 10,2014; 9:02PM,EDT

Above-normal temperatures are expected to grip the Los Angeles Basin through this weekend.
High pressure is building in Los Angeles, cutting off cool air from the Pacific and allowing hotter weather in much of the Basin.
Temperatures for major coastal cities are expected to rise into the lower then middle 90s into the weekend. The hottest valleys may reach the 100s.

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Ken Clark said, "Normals range from the mid-80s for downtown L.A. to the lower 90s for the Valleys; therefore, it will be warmer than normal. But this is not unusual."

September is one of the hottest months for the West Coast, especially for the coast plain, where Downtown L.A. is located.
Record temperatures for Friday through Sunday are 101, 102 and 106 for Downtown L.A. and 117 for places such as Ontario.
