Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday,August 19,2014

An area of low pressure will push across the upper Midwest on Tuesday, while a separate low pressure system will inch across the Mid-Atlantic.

A low pressure system will move east southeastward over the upper Mississippi Valley, the western Great Lakes and the upper Midwest. As this system interacts with warm, muggy air over the nation’s midsection, heavy rain and thunderstorms will develop across the upper Mississippi Valley, the Ohio Valley and the Great Lakes. Additionally, a cold front associated with this system will extend south southwestward. Thunderstorms will also develop along this frontal boundary over the middle Mississippi Valley and the Tennessee Valley.

Just to the east, a separate low pressure system will drift slowly eastward over the Mid-Atlantic. Heavy rain will be possible over the coasts of Virginia and the Carolinas, while scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop across the southern Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast. The northern Mid-Atlantic and New England will stay mostly clear of wet weather.

Out west, monsoonal thunderstorms will develop across the Four Corners and the Desert Southwest during Tuesday afternoon and evening. Heavy rain associated with these thunderstorms will bring a chance of flash flooding to western New Mexico and much of Arizona. A weak area of low pressure along the West Coast will usher scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over parts of the Pacific Northwest and northern California.
