Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,August 18,2014

A cold front will extend from the middle Mississippi Valley to the Mid-Atlantic on Monday, while an area of low pressure will move across the northern Plains.

A low pressure system will inch eastward over the northern Plains. As this system interacts with a warm, muggy air draped across the nation’s midsection, strong to severe thunderstorms will develop across the northern tier of the country. Severe thunderstorms will be possible over parts of southeast South Dakota, eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will also move across North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Just to the southwest, monsoonal moisture will trigger afternoon and evening thunderstorms across parts of the central and southern Rockies, as well as the Desert Southwest. High pressure over the eastern Pacific will keep conditions mostly clear across the West Coast on Monday.

Meanwhile, a cold front will extend across the middle Mississippi Valley, the Tennessee Valley and the Mid-Atlantic. Widespread rain and thunderstorms will develop along this frontal boundary, while an onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico will bring isolated thunderstorms to the Gulf Coast and the Southeast. An area of low pressure will continue to drift northeastward over southeast Canada. This system will usher showers across northern New England on Monday.
