Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday,August 6,2014

A cold front will extend from the Intermountain West to the Northeast, while an area of low pressure will continue to linger over California and Nevada.

A cold front will stretch across the upper Intermountain West, the central Plains, the middle Mississippi Valley, the Ohio Valley, the Mid-Atlantic and the coast of New England. As warm, humid air from the Gulf of Mexico collides with a cooler air mass to the north of the cold front, widespread rain and thunderstorms will develop across the central and eastern thirds of the country. Severe thunderstorms will be possible over southern Iowa, northern Missouri and western Illinois. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain associated with these thunderstorms will bring a chance of flash flooding to southeast South Dakota, northeast Nebraska, Iowa, northern Missouri and northwest Illinois. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will also be possible over the northern Plains, the Ohio Valley, the Tennessee Valley, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. High pressure will keep conditions mostly clear across the southern Plains, while an onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico will initiate isolate thunderstorms across the Gulf Coast and the the Southeast.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will continue to linger over northern California and Nevada. As this system interacts with monsoonal moisture, numerous clusters of thunderstorms will develop across the Intermountain West, the Great Basin and parts of the West Coast. High pressure over the eastern Pacific will keep conditions mostly clear across the Pacific Northwest and the Desert Southwest.
