Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday,July 5,2014

Hurricane Arthur will drift away from the northeastern corner of the country on Saturday, while a cold front will move across the northern Plains.

Hurricane Arthur will move northeastward away from the coast of New England on Saturday. Showers and thunderstorms will linger over northern New England, especially Maine, for the first half of the day before tapering off by the afternoon. An area of low pressure will also bring stormy weather to parts of the Southeast. High pressure will keep the remainder of the Eastern Seaboard clear of precipitation.

A cold front is forecast to extend across the northern Plains. This frontal boundary will push across a warm, humid air mass from the Gulf of Mexico to initiate strong to severe thunderstorms over the nation’s midsection. Severe thunderstorms will be possible over North Dakota and northwest Minnesota, which will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes.

Meanwhile, an area of high pressure over the Four Corners will drag monsoonal moisture across the Southwest on Saturday. Widespread showers and thunderstorms will be possible over the Intermountain West, the Great Basin and the Desert Southwest. Along the Pacific Northwest, an onshore flow will usher showers across parts of Washington. A ridge of high pressure will keep the rest of the West Coast mostly clear of wet weather.
