After a springlike Tuesday in Boston, Wednesday will turn increasingly rainy before a sharp change to frigid weather Wednesday night into Thursday.
A strengthening winter storm will initially spread rain across the city on Wednesday and will nearly assure a wet evening commute.
Rain will change to snow Wednesday night as temperatures plummet below freezing.
The subfreezing air will quickly freeze up any wet or slushy roadways and sidewalks.
"Car doors and locks may freeze up as the frigid weather moves in," said Dombek.

Several inches of snow will pile up on top of the icy freeze-up through Thursday afternoon. The ice and snow will lead to slow travel on roadways and flight delays on Thursday.
