Flash Flooding Threat for Eastern Australia

The recent unsettled weather across parts of eastern Queensland and eastern New South Wales is here to stay for the next several days.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms drenched areas from Sydney south to Ulladulla on Monday. Rainfall averaged 2-4 inches in these areas.
In fact, the rain fell so quickly that flash flooding killed a Sydney man that was washed into a stormwater drain, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. Two other people were reportedly struck by lightning during the violent storm.

A slow-moving trough of low pressure will continue the threat for rounds of rain and thunderstorms across the entire region through Friday.
Rainfall will average 25-75 mm (1-3 inches) across eastern Queensland and eastern New South Wales with local amounts up to 200 mm (8 inches) across the interior of southern Queensland.
Flash flooding will be the biggest threat as rivers across the region remain well below flood stage at this time.

Any thunderstorms can also contain damaging winds and and hail.
The trough of low pressure will finally push south and east of New South Wales this weekend, allowing drier air to build into the region.
Although there can still be an isolated shower or thunderstorm over the weekend, most areas will finally dry out.
