Light Snowfall For Great Lakes, Northeast This Weekend

A weak disturbance which caused snow and ice in desert areas of west Texas Thursday and Friday will spread a swath of light snow through the Great Lakes this weekend.

This will by no means be a widespread, heavy snowfall, but a few flakes will still fly from Chicago eastward to Grand Rapids, Detroit, Buffalo and Erie.
The light snow could cause some slow-downs on area roadways, especially at night when minor accumulations are possible. Airport travel delays are less likely with this system.
The snow will arrive mostly as flurries and areas of light snow tonight and last much of the day on Sunday.
Most locations will see but a coating to perhaps an inch, but areas just downwind of the lakes could see upwards of a couple of 1-3 inches.
That 1-3 inch zone will extend into the higher elevations of northern New England late tonight into the day on Sunday.

Any flakes still in the air Sunday night will quickly come to an end as a dry dome of high pressure builds in overhead.

Monday will be breezy and warmer as the January Thaw sets in.
