The same storm system that ignited Saturday's severe weather closed out the weekend with violent thunderstorms in Chicago.
Powerful thunderstorms with gusty winds and hail traversed the city's western and northern suburbs starting at 1 p.m. CDT Sunday.
One thunderstorm exhibited enough rotation that there was concern a tornado could form.
The suburb of Oak Forest endured peanut-sized hail and a wind gust to 48 mph as the thunderstorms passed through. Tinley Park recorded 15 minutes of pea-sized hail.
Chicago's O'Hare International Airport registered a 45 mph wind gust at 2:30 p.m. CDT.
With the danger of locally damaging thunderstorms now over, cooler air will arrive for tonight and sweep away the unseasonable warmth that helped fuel the severe weather.
A little rain will then linger into this evening, followed by a partial clearing of clouds and a low of 43 degrees later tonight.
No umbrellas will be needed on Monday as dry weather and some sunshine returns. A cooler high of only 57 degrees is expected.
