US National Weather Summary for October 14,2012

Here's the US National Weather Summary for Sunday,October 14,2012,as of 11:30PM,EDT/ 8:30PM, PDT,October 14,2012,from weatherunderground.com,enjoy:

An active weather pattern developed in the Midwest on Sunday as a storm system in the Mid-Mississippi Valley lifted northeastward into the Upper Great Lakes. Significant moisture and energy associated with this system allowed for bands of heavy rain, widespread showers, and thunderstorms to develop on the northern edge of the system from areas of the Ohio Valley into portions of Wisconsin and Michigan. Meanwhile, moisture pooling ahead of the associated cold front allowed additional showers and thunderstorms to extend southwestward from the low back into the Southern Plains. Areas of the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys remained at slight risk of severe thunderstorm development through the afternoon and evening with damaging wind gusts, a few tornadoes, and limited large hail.

Meanwhile, to the west, a ridge of high pressure prevailed across California and the Southwest and allowed a warming trend to continue. To the north, a band of heavy rain occurred ahead of a cold front that moved over central Vancouver Island. Heavy rains occurred in the northern portions of the Olympic Peninsula this morning. Precipitation from this frontal boundary slid southeastward, further into the Pacific Northwest through the afternoon with increasing winds.
