Late-Week Rain, Locally Gusty Storms to Hit East

A round of rain and locally strong thunderstorms will shift into the East late this week.
Rain will first shift along the leading edge of a cold front advancing from the Midwest into the interior Northeast on Thursday. Buffalo, Erie and Pittsburgh will have a damp and breezy day.
Farther south, some thunderstorms may even turn strong on Thursday afternoon and evening from Richmond to Raleigh. Milder and moist air along with daytime heating will set the stage for these thunderstorms to erupt.
Potentially damaging winds, hail and torrential rain will be the main concerns with the storms. Evening commuters should be prepared for the potential for sudden downpours.

Overnight, rain and thunderstorms will sweep northward through the mid-Atlantic, reaching Philadelphia and even New York City by late at night.
Wet weather will continue to focus from the mid-Atlantic to New England on Friday. New York City will be in the center of the rain area with the potential for a gusty thunderstorm not entirely out of the question.

Even outside of thunderstorms, winds will become breezy for a time as the system moves through on Friday.
Behind the passing front, the weather will be mild and sunny along the I-95 corridor over the weekend. Highs will be in the 60s and 70s in the big cities from Washington, D.C., to Boston.
Meanwhile, cooler weather with spotty showers will move into the interior Northeast over the weekend. Highs will top out in the 50s across much of the interior on Saturday.
