Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday,July 7,2016

Active weather will focus over the north central portion of the country on Thursday, while below normal temperatures continue in the Northwest.

An area of low pressure will move slowly northeastward across the central Plains and the upper Mississippi Valley. This system will interact with warm and humid air, setting the stage for widespread thunderstorms across the northern Plains, the central Plains and the Midwest. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in southeast South Dakota, eastern North Dakota, eastern Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, southwest Michigan, western Ohio and north central Kentucky. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain will bring threats of flash flooding to Iowa, southeast Minnesota, southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois, northern Indiana and southwest Michigan. Just to the east, showers and thunderstorms will be commonplace from New England to the Southeast.

Meanwhile, a Pacific system will usher light to moderate rain over portions of Washington, Oregon, northern Idaho, northwest Montana and northern California. Temperatures will be several degrees below normal over a large span of the Northwest.

High pressure will keep hot and dry weather in place over the Great Basin and most of the Southwest on Thursday. Temperatures will also spike several degrees above normal for the southern Plains and the lower Mississippi Valley.
