Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday,July 17,2016
Active weather will impact the Midwest on Sunday, while a ridge of high pressure builds over the southern Plains.
A slow moving low pressure system will transition eastward across the northern Plains and the upper Mississippi Valley. This system will collide with moisture-rich air, which will lead to strong to severe thunderstorms over the northern tier of the country. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in Iowa, southeast Minnesota, Wisconsin and northern Illinois. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. Prolonged heavy rain will also bring threats of flash flooding to eastern Iowa, southeast Minnesota, southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois, northwest Indiana and western Michigan. Additionally, a warm frontal boundary will produce showers and thunderstorms in Upstate New York and New England.
Meanwhile, an onshore flow from the western Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico will keep showers and thunderstorms in the picture for the southern Mid-Atlantic, the Southeast and the Gulf Coast.
High pressure will usher monsoonal moisture over parts of the Southwest. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible in eastern Arizona and western New Mexico.
Out west, a Pacific system will brush across the coast of the Pacific Northwest. Light to moderate showers will be possible in the Northwest, especially along the Cascades.
