Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,June 20,2016

Extreme heat will impact the Southwest on Monday, while a cold front shifts across the Great Lakes.

A large ridge of high pressure will build over the southern Plains and the Southwest. Temperatures will spike above 110 degrees across many locations stretching from southern California to the Four Corners. Portions of the Desert Southwest will hit 120 degrees during Monday afternoon. Excessive heat warnings are in effect for southern California, southern Nevada, Arizona and parts of Utah. Heat advisories are also in place for central Nevada and southwest New Mexico. Relatively cool air will linger over the Pacific Northwest. Daytime heating will trigger isolated showers and thunderstorms in portions of Washington.

Meanwhile, a low pressure system will move across southeast Canada. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend southwestward from the upper Great Lakes to the central Rockies. This frontal boundary will transition eastward, generating strong to severe thunderstorms across parts of the Plains, the Midwest and the Northeast. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania and western New York. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain will bring threats of flash flooding to eastern Nebraska, western Iowa and northwest Missouri.

Moist air combined with daytime heating will keep isolated thunderstorms in the forecast for the western Gulf Coast and the lower Mississippi Valley. Most of the Southeast will dry out on Monday.
