Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday,June 2,2016
A cold front will extend from the Great Lakes to the southern Plains on Thursday, while warm and dry weather persists across the Southwest.
A low pressure system will move eastward over southeast Canada. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will stretch southwestward from the Great Lakes to the southern Plains. As this frontal boundary transitions eastward, it will initiate showers and thunderstorms across the interior Mid-Atlantic, the Midwest, the Tennessee Valley and the lower Mississippi Valley. A wave of low pressure will form along the tail end of the frontal boundary, which will lead to strong thunderstorms and heavy rain over the southern Plains. Prolonged heavy rain will bring threats of flash flooding to western Arkansas, southeast Oklahoma and Texas.
Meanwhile, a weak frontal system will shift over the Northwest and the upper Intermountain West. Light showers will be possible in parts of Washington, northern Oregon, northern Idaho and Montana. During the late afternoon and evening, showers and thunderstorms will break out across the northern Plains.
A ridge of high pressure over the West Coast will keep conditions warm and dry across the Great Basin and the Southwest. Temperatures will spike 10 to 20 degrees above normal over a handful of states. Afternoon temperatures could exceed 110 degrees across parts of southern California and Arizona on Thursday.
