Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday,June 19,2016

Active weather will impact the northern tier of the country on Sunday, while dangerous heat affects the Southwest.

A wave of low pressure will transition across the northern Plains and the upper Mississippi Valley. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will collide with warm and humid air. This interaction will lead to strong to severe thunderstorms over the northern Plains and the upper Midwest. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in southeast North Dakota, eastern South Dakota, Minnesota, northwest Wisconsin and northwest Michigan. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. Fairly cool air will trail this frontal boundary over the Pacific Northwest, the upper Intermountain West and the northern Plains.

Just to the south, a profound ridge of high pressure will drift northwestward over the Southwest. This system will amplify and bring extreme heat to portions of the Desert Southwest. Excessive heat warnings will go into effect Sunday morning for southern California, southern Nevada and a large part of Arizona.

Meanwhile, a stalled out frontal boundary will keep showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for portions of the Gulf Coast, the Deep South and the Southeast. Most of the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast can expect dry and pleasant weather due to high pressure over the region.
