Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday,June 18,2016

An active weather pattern will impact the north central portion of the country on Saturday, while extreme heat persists from the Desert Southwest to the Mississippi Valley.

A warm frontal boundary will shift over the northern Plains. Warm and moist air in place over the northern tier of the country will help generate strong to severe thunderstorms from the upper Intermountain West to the western Great Lakes. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in northern Montana, northern North Dakota and northern Minnesota. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain will bring threats of flash flooding to northeast Montana, northern North Dakota, eastern North Dakota and northern Minnesota. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will also fire up across parts of the central and southern Plains. The same region will experience extreme heat on Saturday. Temperatures could exceed 110 degrees in parts of the Desert Southwest. Excessive heat warnings are in place for portions of the Four Corners, Oklahoma and Kansas. Heat advisories are also in effect for most of the Plains and the lower Mississippi Valley.

Meanwhile, a cold front will stall out over the Southeast. This frontal boundary will be the focal point for rain and thunderstorms, affecting the Deep South and the Southeast.

Additionally, an onshore flow from the Pacific will keep showers and isolated thunderstorms in the forecast for northern California, the Pacific Northwest, the northern Great Basin and the northern Rockies. Mixed precipitation will be possible in the highest elevations of the Cascades and the northern Rockies.
