Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday,April 2,2015

Severe thunderstorms may develop across the Midwest and Ohio River Valley on Thursday as a low pressure system advances eastward over the Great Lakes. Flow around this system will continue creating a warm front that will lead the system eastward, while also creating a cold front that will extend southward down the Mississippi River Valley. Moisture pouring in from the Gulf of Mexico will feed energy into these systems, allowing for showers and thunderstorms to develop between these frontal boundaries across the Mississippi River Valley, Midwest, and into the Ohio River Valley. If storms turn severe, they will most likely develop from Missouri to southern Indiana. The main threats in these areas are strong winds, large hail, and possibly a tornado or two. Rainfall totals across the region will vary around a half of an inch, with over an inch likely in areas of severe thunderstorm development.

Elsewhere across the nation, cooler air will continue spreading across the Western states as another smaller trough of low pressure dips across the Intermountain West and into the central Rockies. In addition to cooler temperatures, this will kick up more scattered showers for the Rockies from Montana through Colorado by Thursday night. Expect higher elevations to see snow showers with strong winds gusting up to 30 mph.
