Pittsburgh to Escape Cool Blast, Not Rain This Week

Pittsburgh will escape the push of chilly air into the mid-Atlantic by midweek, but not the rain and thunderstorms arriving from the Midwest.
The warmth that started this week in New York City and Washington, D.C., will get cut short by a cold front by midweek. Since the cold is arriving via a backdoor cold front, Pittsburgh and other places west of the central Appalachians will remain mild.
A backdoor cold front will arrive from the northeast and the cold will bank up against the eastern slopes of the Appalachians. This will result in a dramatic contrast in temperatures on either side of the mountains.
While being held to the 40s in Philadelphia and Harrisburg, temperatures in Pittsburgh on Wednesday and Thursday will approach or crack the 70-degree mark. A high near 60 F is more common this time of year.

Residents of Pittsburgh may opt to leave jackets at home, but will need to carry along an umbrella.
Rain will occasionally stream in from the Midwest Tuesday through Thursday. A thunderstorm will also rumble at times.
