Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,February 2,2015

A strong low pressure system will slide across the Northeast on Monday, while a weak cold front will bring unsettled weather to the Northwest.

A vigorous low pressure system will move east northeastward over the Ohio Valley, the northern Mid-Atlantic and the coast of New England. Winter storm warnings are in place across the lower Great Lakes, the northern Ohio Valley, the northern Mid-Atlantic and New England as heavy snow showers are anticipated over a handful of states. Snow accumulations will range between 6 to 12 inches across the Northeast, with locally higher totals over the northern Appalachians. There will be chances of freezing rain over the southern end of the low pressure system, focusing over the coast of southern New England and the northern Mid-Atlantic. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend south southwestward over the southern Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast. Light to moderate rain will develop along this frontal boundary over the southeastern corner of the country. A mixture of rain and snow will affect the southern Appalachians.

Meanwhile, a cold front will approach the West Coast. Light to moderate precipitation will develop ahead of this frontal boundary over the Pacific Northwest and the upper Intermountain West. Moderate to heavy rain is forecast to develop over northern California during Monday afternoon and evening. The Southwest and the southern Great Basin will stay clear of wet weather due to a ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific.
