A blast of cold air will settle in across the Northeast on Friday, while a wet weather pattern sets up over the Northwest.
A cold frontal boundary will extend southwestward from New England to the middle Mississippi Valley. As this frontal boundary transitions southeastward, it will generate light to moderate rain from western Pennsylvania to northwest New England. Cold air will usher in over the Northeast in the wake of the cold frontal passage, allowing for rain to switch over to snow across the higher elevations of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Most of the Midwest, the Mid-Atlantic, the Southeast and the Deep South will experience dry conditions on Friday.
Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure will weaken over the Four Corners and the southern high Plains. As a result, showers and thunderstorms will diminish over the southern tip of Texas and the Lower Rio Grande Valley. A ridge of high pressure will influence a dry weather pattern from the Southwest to the Great Lakes.
Along the West Coast, a cold frontal boundary will produce moderate rain from northwest California to western Washington. Most of the precipitation will fall in the form of rain, and arrive by the latter half of Friday.
