Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,May 23,2016

An active weather pattern will impact the central third of the country on Monday, while a low pressure system shifts over the Mid-Atlantic.

An area of low pressure will move east northeastward over south central Canada. This system will produce showers and high elevation snow across northern California, the Pacific Northwest, the Great Basin and the upper Intermountain West. Below normal temperatures will persist from California to the northern high Plains. A cold frontal boundary will extend from south central Canada to the southern high Plains. As this frontal boundary transitions eastward, it will collide with an onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico. This interaction will result in widespread rain and thunderstorms across the Plains and parts of the Mississippi Valley. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, northwest Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain will bring threats of flash flooding to eastern Kansas, eastern Nebraska, western Iowa and northwest Missouri.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will push east northeast over the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England. This system will usher showers and thunderstorms across the Mid-Atlantic, the central Appalachians and New England. Most of the Ohio Valley, the Tennessee Valley and the Southeast will experience warm and dry conditions.
