Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday,May 22,2016

A trough of low pressure will shift across the upper Intermountain West and the Plains on Sunday, while a separate area of low pressure dives southward over the Mid-Atlantic.

A trough of low pressure will move northeastward across the Intermountain West and the northern Plains. This system will continue to generate showers and thunderstorms over the Pacific Northwest, the northern Great Basin and the upper Intermountain West. Most of these storms will be driven by daytime heating, so expect storm development during the second half of the day. High elevation snow will remain a possibility for the Cascades and the northern Rockies. Stronger storms will break out across the northern Plains, the central Plains and the southern Plains due to a surge of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in Texas, western Oklahoma, western Kansas, eastern Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota and central North Dakota. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. Most of the Mississippi Valley will experience warm and muggy weather as high pressure builds over the region.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure is expected to dive south southeastward across the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic. Light to moderate rain and embedded thunderstorms will affect the Mid-Atlantic and the central Appalachians. Scattered showers are also expected across the Ohio Valley and the Northeast.
