Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday,May 21,2016

A trough of low pressure will inch across the western third of the country on Saturday, while a low pressure system shifts over the Eastern Seaboard.

A deep trough of low pressure will move slowly eastward across the Pacific Northwest and the Great Basin. This system will keep temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below normal from California to the upper Intermountain. Widespread rain and isolated thunderstorms will affect the Northwest, the Great Basin and the Intermountain West. Due to below normal temperatures, high elevation snow will affect the Cascades, the Sierra Nevada, the Wasatch and the northern Rockies. Winter weather advisories are in place for northeast California and south central Oregon. The aforementioned system will also generate gusty winds across the Southwest. High wind warnings and wind advisories are in effect for portions of California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, western Colorado and southern Idaho.

Just to the east, strong to severe thunderstorms will break out across the high Plains. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in northwest Texas, western Oklahoma, southwest Kansas, eastern Montana, northeast Wyoming, western North Dakota and western South Dakota. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will push northeastward from the eastern Tennessee Valley to the southern coast of New England. This system will bring moderate to heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms to the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic. Rainy conditions will also spread across the Ohio Valley and New England on Saturday.
