While other parts of the country searched for sunscreen and bathing suits, New England was hit with another snowy blast on Monday, breaking a late-season snowfall record.
The winter storm dumped as much as 7.5 inches of snow on northern Maine, and Caribou reported its latest snowfall of at least 2 inches since records began in 1939. It was also the second-latest snowstorm to drop at least an inch of snow on Caribou; the latest snowfall on record of at least an inch occurred on May 18,1941.
Areas near Pittsburg, New Hampshire, reported 2.5 inches of snow, and in Vermont, Killington Resort said 5 inches of snow fell, WCVB.com reported.
"That's right - in the early hours of May 16, we picked up over six percent of this season's total snowfall in one our biggest storms of the 'winter,'" a resort spokesperson told WCVB.com.

While snow isn't the first thing that comes to mind during this time of year, near- or below-freezing temperatures in mid-May are not all that uncommon, weather.com meteorologist Chris Dolce said. Much of the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and New England typically don't see their last freeze until between April 30 and May 20, which appears to be on target this year, Dolce added.
Before the snow arrived in New England, parts of several states from the Upper Midwest into the Northeast experienced record low temperatures and dustings of snow.
Falling snow in Cleveland created chilly conditions for runners at Sunday's Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, Cleveland.com reported.
The 50th annual Flower Day event at Eastern Market in Detroit also saw cold temperatures and snow flurries, but that didn't deter the crowds, the Detroit News said.
