The combination of Arctic air plunging southward and a storm system emerging from the Rockies is one of the typical scenarios for snow and ice to develop across the central United States. As was seen over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, when the Arctic blast is strong enough, the setup for ice can unfold well south into Texas.
