Rain will spread across much of the Eastern states into the second day of December 2015.
While much of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast had below-normal precipitation for the month of November, the month of December is starting off wet.
This rain will expand northeastward ahead of a slow-moving cold front that will crawl toward the East Coast through the middle of the week.
Those heading to and from work through Wednesday will deal with wet roads and possible travel delays.
Umbrellas and rain jackets will be needed for anyone heading outdoors through Wednesday in New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
Following intermittent rain and drizzle from Tuesday, heavier rainfall is likely from the mid-Atlantic to New England on Wednesday into Wednesday night.
"Some brief icy conditions may develop into Tuesday night across northern New England," AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rossio said.
Those traveling across the northern New England should give yourself extra time to reach your destination as roads could be slippery.
"This precipitation will change over to rain as warmer air punches into the area by Wednesday," Rossio added.

"A new storm will develop along the cold front on Wednesday and bring a midweek soaker to the Interstate 95 corridor," Rossio said.
The new storm will enhance the rainfall.
Some locations could receive up to an inch of rain through Wednesday night.
The storm and trailing cold front will bring another soaking to areas from Richmond, Virginia, to Raleigh and Charlotte, North Carolina, Atlanta, Columbia, South Carolina, and Tallahassee, Florida.
Rain is likely to stick around for anyone heading to New York City for the Christmas tree lighting in Rockefeller Center on Wednesday evening.
As this storm tracks north and east on Thursday, cooler air will return to the region and bring the chance of spotty rain and snow showers across the Great Lakes.
A significant snowfall is likely across central and northern Maine on Thursday where snow totals could reach a few inches in some spots.
Drier conditions will build across the Interstate 95 corridor on Thursday, providing excellent viewing conditions for the lighting of the Christmas tree in Washington, D.C.
Dry conditions will hold across the eastern U.S. for this weekend as an area of high pressure will be in control of the weather. Conditions will be favorable for anyone heading outdoors to put out holiday decorations and scout for a Christmas tree.
This rain may be a welcome sight for portions of the Northeast as areas from Long Island to southwestern Maine are experiencing moderate drought conditions, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
