Britain Remains on Alert for Unsettled Weather Through Midweek

While Storm Desmond has exited the United Kingdom, the storm-weary region will have to be on alert for more rain and wind this week.
Another deep low pressure system will pass just to the northwest of the Isles on Wednesday, bringing more rain and wind across the region as a cold front eastward across the United Kingdom.
While the rain and wind this week will pale in comparison to Storm Desmond's damage, the additional rain and wind through midweek will hinder clean up efforts.

The majority of the unsettled weather on Monday will be confined to Wales, Scotland and northern England as a warm front bringing largely light showers. While it will be breezy, wind should not bring significant impacts.
A cold front will move across the Isles on Tuesday bringing showers to eastern areas and lengthier spells of rain from western Scotland to Wales and western England. More rain is in store for Scotland and the northwest of England during the middle of the week.

While rainfall in most areas through the middle of the week will be less than 25 mm (an inch) across Wales and southern England, heavier rain is in store for Scotland and northern England. This is especially true on Wednesday and on Wednesday night when rain could be over an 25 mm (an inch) within a several hour period.
While this rain will not be enough to cause addition significant flooding on its own, it will cause ongoing flooding to be slower to recede and could even cause an increase in already high river levels.
Wind gusts of 40-50 mph (65-80 km/h) are also expected during the middle of the week. Given the already saturated ground and recent windy conditions, these winds could cause additional power cuts.
